PIGMENT REMOVAL

Sunspots, freckles, dark spots and age spots can be removed by medspa aesticians by using medical grade laser machines or skin peels. Laser light is a tested and approved way to absorb the pigment in your skin without harming surrounding tissue. Treatment is not painful and is minimally invasive. Some patients will experience stinging sensations during treatment and see some redness tht settles in about 2-4 hours. Pigment removal is suitable for anyone with freckles, dark spots or patches visible on their face and body.

Don’t like the hyperpigmentation issues on your skin that causes you to hide your face? Hyperpigmentation is any area of darker discoloration that can take the form of sunspots, and scars left after an acne breakout or uneven brown patches on your face. It is a common problem and over 5 million Americans are plagued by hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation is usually not harmful, but it is stubborn to treat.

Pigmentation is the color of your skin that comes from melanin. Special cells in the skin make melanin, and when these cells become damaged, it affects melanin production. Too much melanin and your skin becomes darker, or dark spots appear. Pregnancy, Addison’s disease, and sun exposure can make your skin darker or cause dark spots.

Pigmentation will not fade by itself, and if you don’t like the excess pigmentation, treatment is available. Medspa dermatologists have many ways to help treat hyperpigmentation, and the tools they use depends on the type of hyperpigmentation, your skin tone, and how much downtime you can take.

How Can You Treat Hyperpigmentation?

  • Pigmentation issues can be treated using a chemical peel. Chemical peels use acids at strong concentrations and help by removing the epidermis. A medical-grade chemical peel at your medspa is more powerful and yields quicker results. You may have redness, irritation, and blistering after a chemical peel. If you are out in the sun quite a bit, however, chemical peels may not be the best treatment option for you.
  • IPL therapy or intense pulse light therapy is also known as a photofacial. IPL therapy stimulates collagen growth and is used for overall pigmentation issues. Flat and dark spots respond to IPL, but you may need many sessions to get rid of your pigmentation issues.
  • Pigment removal can also be treated with fractional laser resurfacing treatments, which is a deeper treatment for more stubborn pigment issues. Ablative lasers are intense and involve removing layers of your skin. Non-ablative procedures target the dermis to promote collagen growth and tightening effects. Both ablative and non-ablative lasers destroy elements in your skin to ensure that new skin cells grow back more toned and with less pigmentation.
